Dr. Gabriel Prada, UMF “Carol Davila” answered these questions at the International Conference on Longevity and Gerontology on “Active ageing and current interventions to slow cognitive decline”.
The professor explained that the chance of the disease being genetically transmitted is less than 5% of cases. He said that genetic evaluation is only required in cases where the condition occurs in people up to the age of 50, or when several members of the same family become ill.
But even in these cases we cannot speak with certainty about the genetic transmission of Alzheimer’s, only about a high probability of it.
