Did you know that each individual has a chronological and a biological age?
Iuliana Popescu, Research Scientist at Barnstable Brown Diabetes & Obesity Research Center, USA, explained how the two ages can be measured and what the differences between them are, at the International Longevity and Gerontology Conference on “Active Ageing and Current Interventions to Slow Cognitive Decline”.
She explained that each of us has a chronological age which involves the linear passage of time from birth, but also a biological age which is a kind of internal clock for each of us. Biological age is calculated according to the level of ageing of each organ or tissue, which differs according to a lot of factors and not just chronological time.
