The medicine of the future is based on prevention. It is much easier and cheaper to prevent than to treat, regardless of the age of the patient.
Dr Andrea Maier, Professor of Gerontology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, University of Singapore, tells us more about longevity medicine at the International Conference on Longevity and Gerontology with the theme “Active ageing and current interventions to slow cognitive decline”.
The professor explained that researchers are currently working on longevity drugs that could be administered to all age groups who do not yet suffer from a specific disease. Also, because scientists now have a better understanding of what health means, Dr Andrea Maier said they are also working on ways to optimise children’s health by improving parental health at the time of conception.
